The Wines of Jerez: Still and Fortified

The Refectory invites you to a virtual tasting of still and fortified wine from Jerez on April 29th at 7 pm Eastern with guests Ben Carson and Erin Drain from importer Olé & Obrigado. We will explore the many faces, new and old, of winemaking in Sherry. Get ready to taste small lot Manzanilla from the legendary Antonio Barbadillo, single barrel VORS Sherries from the Osborne family that dates back to the late 18th and early 19th centuries, and work from emerging winemaker Alberto Orte, who produces still wines made with Tintilla and other rare indigenous varieties. Orte´s newest project, Bodegas Poniente, seeks to recreate small-scale Sherry wines made in a pre-industrial style. Along with the Bodegas Poniente Fino, we will taste an example of still wine from his El Aljibe estate: Vara y Pulgar Tintilla, which was the first red wine produced in Sherry in over a century.
