The Zach Compston Trio with Sydney McSweeney

The Zach Compston Trio with Sydney McSweeney presents an evening of intimate jazz standards and original music to the Dinner Music Series. The trio’s imaginative, infectious energy provides a perfect musical canvas for the many colors of Sydney’s voice, invoking the spirit of Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald, Sam Cooke, and many more of their musical heroes.

Sydney McSweeney is a vocalist from Columbus, Ohio who at a young age developed a deep love of music. That love directed her to Otterbein University where she studied classical voice and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in music. Most recently, Sydney sang with the renowned bass player FOLEY and she performs as the lead vocalist of the Sydney McSweeney trio.

Zach Compston is a highly regarded drummer, who enjoys a wide range of musical endeavors. He has performed for nearly a decade with saxophonist/composer Pete Mills and recorded two releases with Waves de Ache. Founder of the Zach Compston Big Band in 2018, he has also performed frequently with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra and directs the education and programming for the Jazz Arts Group of Columbus.

Pianist Robert Mason began playing piano at age nine, starting his journey as the first in his family to play an instrument. He fell in love with music at an early age and began listening to a wide range of styles. Whether it was enjoying music during Sunday service at his baptist church growing up, or listening to his parent’s favorite r&b classics while on road trips, Robert soaked in as many influences as possible. Robert currently performs with Fo/Mo/Deep, Soul Revival, Renee Dion, the Pocketbooks, Kinfolk, Blue Water Kings, and many others. He also helps lead the worship band at Flintridge Community Church.

Bassist George DeLancey is a native of Cambridge, OH, and a student of such prestigious programs as the Columbus Youth Jazz Orchestra and the Michigan State University Jazz Studies Program, where he studied under Rodney Whitaker. He toured nationally and internationally with the Larry Fuller Trio from 2017 to 2019 and has performed as a sideman with bandleaders including Wessell Anderson, Peter Bernstein, Bobby Broom, Tia Fuller, Wynton Marsalis, Cécile McLorin Salvant, as well as many others in New York and throughout the United States.
